Watched Lage Raho Munna Bhai this weekend. Very impressed by the way the movie is handled, especially the Gandhigiri episodes. In the last few decades, Gandhi has become a subject for serious documentary makers and lip-service politicians who talk about Gandhi and never care about him. Even the class room books try to make him more of a history than a relavance. Its good to see a frontline commercial movie walking a tight ropeline, without compromising on the ideology of Gandhi yet handling a very sensitive issue. Fix the human side of the issue first. Like the inability of a father and son to communicate. Like the inability of a person to decide on the prospective life partner. The rest of the things fall in place. This is the summary of the entire Gandhigiri episode of this sweet movie.
This movie makes you laugh whole heartedly while watching the movie, yet makes you think more and more after the movie. This is where the movie scores over the text books, documentaries and politicians.
It is a pure coincidence that two of the best movies of the year around similar theme, Rang De Basanti and Lage Raho Munna Bhai, chose to use Radio as a medium to reach out people. This shows the increasing popularity of radio in India, especially among urban youth, the prime target of these movies.
