Syndicated from a previously public website – Raju Alluri’s public posts at Sun Microsystems
About six weeks ago, one of my cousins sent me an email asking about the best places to find information regarding processor architectures and trends. She needs to do an assignment for her M.S. program at a U.S. University. Well, I could suggest a couple of well written reference books, but couldn’t resist pointing her to Sun’s website, which has lot of information about the UltraSparc family of processors.
While sending her that email, I made a mental note that all I can point her to is just public information available only thru Sun’s external website. I got a little curious how far she can go with whatever public information we have on our website. I know for sure that even if it is for educational/research/non-profit purpose, she can’t even get a single word about any internal information. Thats the rule. (Yes! That course on code of business conduct works!!)
To my surprise, after going through Sun’s website, she didn’t even ask a single question. She did write a very nice assignment by appropriately quoting the right references from Sun’s public website. That makes me believe that Sun has reasonable amount of information on its website that can enable students, academics and researchers to base their study and education on.
I think I need to give some soaking time to this thought and come up with another blog entry very soon on how one can make use of the public information on Sun’s website. This kind of information has a lot of value in the educational space. So stay tuned for my next blog entry.
